It's called a bachelor's chair as you can use it as a step-stool, ironing board or chair. I have one. They are pretty neat. My grandkids love to "use" it when they come to visit.

When looking at the first picture, I was sure it was an ironing board as well as a step chair! How wonder to find such a long ago treasure!

my husband made these for daughters and DILS some years ago for xmas. I don't know if we still have the pattern or not.

Hey!! I have one of these! It is a staple in the laundry room. My seat doesn't fold up like that in half to make it like another step and mine is just stained a light oak color. I bought it from an man who made them for extra income about eleven years ago here in reno.
I didn't realize that it was something from long ago.
