I don't understand why anyone would want cheap thread. You spend good money for your material and then you spend all that time, so why ruin it all with cheap thread that can lint up you machine, break and not last in the quilt. Just beyond me.

Even Wal-Mart's small spool thread is $1.94 a spool! I use a lot of serger cone thread for everything, and Atlanta has good thread and good prices and a great selection of colors in 3,000 yd cones. I use it a lot and buy the small spools at the store when I need to color match something or even machine embroidery (that doesn't call for real glossy threads). I am not into landscape embroidery (yet) so I can be a little creative with the colors I use.

I'm sure others have said this, but try NOT to use cheap thread. I've seen soooo many machines come if for repairs at our LQS, and so often it just turns out to be the thread is so bad, it's wreaking the machine.

I'm a fan of Connecting Thread, too. Haven't tried Atlantic though.

Of course, you don't say how large a spool. Try Connecting Threads; if you compare prices based on thread per foot, you might find that deal. Good luck!

update: I should have mentioned Atlantic Thread. They're good too!
I really like Connecting Threads, too. :-)

i have found good thread to places like Goodwill, Salvation Army etc. As long as it is strong it will work fine.

My Bernina seems to be picky. It likes Mettler thread. I've tried others, but have better luck with the Mettler. I finally accepted that if I made the price for my Bernina, I should just the pay the price for the thread. - Cynthia

I'm remembering a tool sold at Clothilde that was put on the sewing machine that would wind thread from one spool to another. It use to be in the catalog. A mother and son invented it. Anyone remember that? They also invented the universal thread spool adapter to fit any size spool. I can find that in the catalog but not the winder.
