I too am doing big stitches in a big block--pink/brown quilt.
Using DMC #5 thread -but it is in skeins --used it because I wanted varigated pink and brown -very thick but I also stitiched in ditch around big blocks with machine first.

Started out looking for size #8 thread but didn't find any --wanted perle cotton - so when i saw this I knew I could make it work. Love doing big stitiches. Hope to have this finished by March 1. to show at a group.

Thread bought at Joann's

It's beautiful.. I haven't tried doing big stitch quilting yet, but every time I see it I think, next time! and I'm glad to know what you're using for thread. 10 wt. crochet cotton is something I have an abundance of.. Thanks for showing us.

Your quilting looks very nice, I love the white against the colors.

What lovely stitching, I have just started big stitch quilting and I get this yarn: http://www.threadart.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=283 as I prefer the non variegated threads, and besides being incredible quality, and it really is, the price is amazing and just for an extra plus, it is on a spool so I can do feature stitching on my machine, this was my first try out:

I do hand quilting and never have done the big stitch but I am going to try it. My stitches aren't even when I do small stitches but I think it would be easier with the big stitch and would work well on certain quilts. I also machine quilt.
