Walmart is not always the cheapest or best place to buy anything anymore.........
Walmart tends to be my last ditch effort to shop.

and to think i had a silent hissy fit when i saw price tags over $5 per yard on quilting cottons at my local wallyworld.

the fleece and decorator fabs are higher, but i automatically pass them by anyway.

I noticed my Walmart went up about a dollar a yard on the better fabrics to about $5.47 or so. I don't know if this is in response to the price of cotton (and everything else, it seems) going up or what.

Our WalMart did away with fabric last year. Not a store I shop at but went in yesterday...thinking I needed a serger for a little project. They now only have precut fabric and kits hanging on the wall.

Our Walmart doesn't carry fabric anymore. I have noticed something similar at our JoAnn's though. I saw quilt fabric for $13/yd which is $3 more than any fabric at either of my LQS. I turned and walked out the door. I won't pay $10-$13 for JoAnn's quality fabric unless the prices at my LQS are $15/yd.

Ours recently went up to $5.97. I sure hope that is where it stops! $9??!! Wow.

The frustrating thing is that one day the fabrics were $2.97 and the next day they were $5.97. The exact same ones!

I think it is cheaper to buy at Joann's now. And, believe it or not, the service is a lot better!

it seems odd that the prices aren't standard across all communities, but neither is the cost of living.

my personal purchasing strategy is the same, no matter where i shop. if it isn't on sale i pass it by. if it's on sale for a price i don't consider reasonable or can't afford at the time, i pass it by.

we can sympathize with each other, but that won't solve the problem.

- similar fabrics now cost a lot more from other sources than they do at walmart.

remember: when a business adopts a strategy you don't like, complain to that business. we can't fix it. here.
