I have to travel 20 kilometers for the closest one and then 50 kilometers to Bargain Box for the best priced fabrics and a Spotlight store for cheaper fabrics.

One locally. It's about 40 miles one way and 50 miles another to get to any more.

As of 2 weeks ago, the closest is Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, 2 LQS which are all 1 1/2 hours from here. The only LQS we had 1/2 hour away just closed.

Please don't insist on the mile thingy:>) The Kansas City area is right on the Kansas-Missouri Border and is a mixture of city and country living - I think this contributes to the large number of stores carrying fabric.
Within 15 minutes I have Walmart, Hancock, Joann and Hobby Lobby and many Thrift Shops. A 30 minute drive will get you to more Walmart, Hancock, Hobby Lobby and Joann, plus several LQSs, my favorite being Liberty Quilt Shop (like taking a step back in time).
Let's not forget the k-zillion online fabric stores, which I'm convinced will ultimately put many local shops out of business (I'm ashamed to admit that more and more I'm buying online because of price and convenience).
I feel sad for the women here who have to drive long distances and plan "day trips" to access fabric shops.
