Perhaps you brought back memories of someone in his life that quilted and is no longer there, but he needed to say what was on his mind. Giving someone else a pat on the back in a way. Don't be upset, just think you maybe gave an angel credit for something. ((((((((hugs)))))))

Thank each and every one of you for all the encouragement and hugs. I have read all your posts, some were laugh out loud funny and all made me feel so much better. Wish I could answer everyone separately. You all are so right - he was probably just having a bad day, in pain, or maybe missing someone who had been special to him. I will let it go, and just seek the quilting advice of the experts on this board who really know what quilting is all about, whether it's by machine or hand we all know the beauty of the process.

First your quilt is beautiful!! It must be hard for that man to live with so much anger.
Here is your hug and forget him and just live with love in your heart.

I think he could use this statement from Dr. Albert Ellis, psychotherapist and originator of rational emotive therapy.
"You should not should on yourself!" Keep quilting and rocking that needle!

Your quilt speaks for itself. Awesome and done with Love. Its going to last for a very long time. He was probably from the depression era where that was the only way women could make quilts then. Just be glad you live in todays world. Quilters rule!

Look at it this way, you only had to spend 5 minutes with Mr. Grumpy pants, he has to spend the rest of his life with him!! Can you imagine what it must be like to be him? Oh, I'm so happy to be me!!!

I feel sorry for that grouchy old man--he must be very sad and lonely. Your quilt is beautiful.

Yes, you need a hug [[[ ]]]!! Some really don't care what they say to others, especially when they don't feel good. That may have been the elderly man's problem. It's not a good excuse but his opinions may have reflected his wife's way of quilting and she may be gone, causing him more pain. Anyway, he should not have reacted that way. You, walked away, holding your head up!! Your quilt is beautiful and you have every right to be proud of it! Don't let others control you by what they say. It's not easy, I know!
