Take a look just above the red heart. I found this hole today. I let Rocky bring his bones on the bed and have not had a problem before this. I had left the quilt in a bunch and I think his mouth was too close to my quilt. Anyway, have you ever had a problem like this and is there ANYTHING I can to to repair it? I do not believe that I have any more of this fabric. I will have to look.

Appliqué a heart shape, flower, dog bone ....whatever over it, it's about the only way other than if you had some of that fabric left you could carefully pick that square out & replace it by appliquéing it into place. I've done that with an unfinished top that someone had sliced a whole in.

Do you have any of the fabric used in the quilt...if so add the dogs name as if he was part creator.

I use cloth napkins and my dog has gotten hold of soiled ones and chewed holes. Keep the dog off that quilt and put a blanket he can chew. You have already let him do it so it would be hard to change his behavior

I agree applique is a good answer here. If you didn't want to add anything visual, you could take a square of that fabric (assuming you can find a scrap or something similiar) and iron the seam allowances in, and then whip stitch it to the quilt exactly over that area.

Yippee. I found a piece of that fabric in my scrap box. Almost like I knew 7 years ago that I would need it.

Actually the dog does not purposely chew on the quilt. As I had said,he likes to take his bones to bed. I have a quilt in shades of brown and dark red that is folded at the foot of the bed and he has not bothered it. Since this quilt was in a lump (my fault. took a nap yesterday and did not re-fold it) I think a bit got in his mouth as he was enjoying his bone. The comforter on the bed is old and worn and I let the cats and dog lay on it because it is soft. Anyway. I have a piece to use to repair. Now I just have to get up the courage to start ripping.

Yippie!

I wouldn't rip it out, I'd just applique right over top. :D

I was just wondering, what can I do about the batting? The white you see in the picture is a piece of paper I put under the quilt. The hole goes clean through the back.

If you want it to look like it did originally, you'll need to pull that piece out. It's not that bad, really. I've handled a similar situation for someone else's quilt.

Take frequent deep breaths. Use a blind stitch to get the new piece in. Work with it flat. You'll be fine.

Otherwise, applique over it. If you use the same fabric, it won't be as noticable.

made a quilt for my sister & her dog did the same thing. I mailed scrap fabric so she could sew it over the whole. On one scrap I embroidered the words "NO! NO! BAD DOG!" & that's what she used. I told her quilts were made to be used & these things happen. Better than having them packed away & never appreciated.

If you have scraps make what we call a "Quilt Bandage"... make a small heart from the same fabric or one close and applique it over the problem. Make a few more and scatter them about if it looks odd.
When one of my friends first started quilt her own quilts she would get tucks and she's the one that name her little patches "QB"... Hope this helps heal a broken heart!
