After reading a few pages of comments, it occurs to me that it's so easy to come down hard on the older man. Considering his surroundings, and whether he was seeing the doctor himself or waiting for someone else, perhaps he was in a state of shock, anger or fear about what was going on. That can cause almost any of us to say things we wouldn't ordinarily say out loud. That being said, your quilt is beautiful.

We don't know the man's situation in life, but why would you give this man's oponion, who you don't even know, any space in your head and heart?????? Really it'a a gorgeous, gorgeous quilt. One you should be very proud of. I love it and if was the one sitting across the room from you, I'd be moving closer to see it better.

Great Job! Just consider the source and move on - he probably was wishing he could make something so beautful and since he knew he could not, he put it down to make himself feel better! Granted, quilting has moved on beyond the necessity to use every scrap-but none the less-a true work of art!
