If You Had $2000.00, What Machine Would You Buy?
#171
My choice would also be a husqvarna viking embroidery machine. I'm fairly new and can only embroider by hand, which is a pain because I have arthritis in my fingers, and after a short time I have to rest my hands.

I have owned a Pfaff, 2 singer touch & sew,(s) one is at my daughters' now - got it in 1992 and still runs great. also have a singer curvey - gave it to my future daughterinlaw, to use when I am there, just bought a bernette 0 I LOVE IT! and also just got a new PFAFF - expression 2.0 which i also love and hope to upgrade to a quilt expression by the end of the year. I say buy the best machine you can afford and be very careful and specific in telling the dealer exactly what you want the machine to do. If it is for quilting, be sure the machine you buy is intended to do that. When I was buying a quilting machine 2 years ago, the dealer at Joann's sold me a Singer Curvey which even Singer recomends NOT for quilting! Get a reputable dealer w ho whill service what they sell on site, and follow-up with training on using the machine and will stand behind the product. For example, if you want to quilt, the machine should concentrate on quilting features, not embroidery .

Sewing machines are made and/or manufactured in SE Asia.
..."The Bernina 220 is made in China in a Bernina factory. Which means it is a factory built by and owned by Bernina. The 220 features the same quality Bernina is famous for.
The Bernina Activa 220 is NOT built in China. It is manufactured in a Bernina-built factory in Thailand, opened by Hans-Peter Ueltschi personally. Unlike Singer, Viking, and so many others, these machines have strict quality control and strive to equal the full-size Swiss-made machines."...
..."SVP WORLDWIDE’S VSM FACILITY IN SWEDEN TO SHIFT FOCUS TO ENGINEERING, DESIGN, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS CALL FOR MANUFACTURING TO TRANSITION TO COMPANY´S EXISTING FACILITY IN ASIA.
LaVergne, TN, January 14, 2010 - In a move that will enable the company to improve pricing and strengthen its competitive position, SVP Worldwide announced today that it plans to transition the manufacture of machines now made at its VSM plant in Sweden to a state of the art facility in Shanghai where it currently manufactures many of its other machines. The VSM plant currently manufactures only a specific segment of products, often referred to as embroidery or top of the line machines."...
...As are the Janome, Babylock, Singer, etc... in Taiwan & Japan.
There are none made in America. Sorry to be bearer of bitter news.
A good, older machine is better but it is a matter of choice, mostly...
Happy shopping!
