The Today show this morning had a chef on (from America's Test Kitchen show) and was reviewing small kitchen appliances and he showed a pressure cooker!
He said the electric ones don't get hot enough to brown meat so he recommended to use the stove top kinds. He had a Fagor model on the show. And he said to be sure you have a good rubber seal inside the lid. If it's worn out or doesn't fit well you won't get pressure.
But I still don't think I'm brave enough to use one.

My husband loves them. They are much safer now.But I remember back in the 60's my mom had this huge one and everytime she would fire it up I left the house. It scared me to death as she released the steam.

You have my exact Singer Sewing machine in your photo! I use it all the time for all my quilting. I machine quilt all my quilts and this workhorse just keeps on perfect stitching, even after the abuse it has had from me for over 35 years, and I bought it used!

We have two stovetop - one large, one medium. We also have a microwave pressure cooker. That's the one I use the most. I can toss in a cup of rice, two cups of water, some spices, a couple of chicken breasts or thighs (still frozen), and then put it in the microwave for 30 minutes. I have a really good meal in no time at all. I love it. I actually cooked a corned beef in it last night.

the newer cookers are a lot safer..I own 3, 1 is really 2 because there is a small pan 1 is a lg. pan , they sharer a common lid, this way I use the sizeI need. however most of the time I use the lg bottom as we love to eat and like leftovers..The other one we use when we go camping it is electric..so the answer to your ? is yes I use pr.cooker and I love it..

Have had mine for 50 years, still use it once in awhile. You can't do beef any better in any cooker.
