I like it as is....without adding borders....love the "red". I would stop here and put the dark blue binding on it.

Karen, I am so glad you continued with this. It is gorgeous. I'd go with red setting triangles, a thin (maybe 1" wide) dark blue border and then the paisley, perhaps or a different blue. Whatever you decide on, you have a winner.

I like the paisley. I think a dark blue would be adding a new blue that may not match and I think will fade. I hate when blues fade. The paisley is great, and you have it.

I'd put the blue paisley around it and bind it in a red. It really is looking great, he is going to love it.

A nice dark navy blue will be what I would use. That will "stop" the action going in in the main body of the quilt "picture" and act as a frame.
