We've been there a couple times. The second time we were just as awestruck as the first.

Definitely go during the day AND at night.

If you do visit Mt. Rushmore, there is a little town called Keystone, they have a taffy shop where they make the taffy right in front of you. I think it's called Suger Mountain Taffy or something like that. Yes Devil's Tower is in Wyoming, but there are lots to do in Rapid and in Wyoming as well.

some people love it and are rightly impressed...some people get there and say...ok...what ever..
it is a national treasure and every child should see it-visit and learn! there are so many places right here in the US so many people never (bother) to visit-they are so busy exploring other people's back yards--it is sad to miss the national treasures our country is so rich with!!!
i have been to Mt. Rushmore 5 or 6 times-it is in wonderful country worth exploring

I live just miles away from the beautiful Mt. Rushmore. Take time before you come to the Black Hills and learn some of the history behind the building of Mr. Rushmore. It is fantastic. Also great "other" history of the area. Are you staying in a Hotel, bringing an RV, Bed and Breakfast? Still snowing so I would wait a couple of days. Enjoy

we went years ago with our children. It is awe inspiring,to think that someone carved that out of the mountain. Also the Crazy Horse carving should be almost finished(it's a memorial to Chief Crazy Horse) it should be great too. Go,it's part of our history, everyone should get up close and personal. :thumbup:

Yes, it is definitely worth going. Be sure to check out all the other suggestions too. One more idea I haven't seen mentioned is Custer State Park. The drive through the park is great and during the spring, you can see all the baby buffaloes.

I've been several times and brought Japanese relatives by car from Chicago. Everyone loved seeing it and everything about the area. I also drove through there while transporting my dog to Seattle and stopped by with him. He really enjoyed our drive through Yellowstone and cried to be let out to "play" with the buffalo babies.

I have, when I took our retirement trip in our 5th wheel across the country. We saw our national parks & marveled at what a beautiful country we have. I would recommend it to everyone!

Took our childrens and some friends years ago and had a wonderful time. We did the night time lighting and it was just beautiful. Our 3 DD's still talk about it.

Many times, used to live in Rapid City SD, so it was just a nice drive in the hills to get there. Now live farther away (about 9-10 hours drive) It is beautiful. So are the Black Hills, especially when you live there, you find the back roads to explore.
