I bought a small brother machine at Walmart for under $300.00, and I love it. you might lock there.

I have many "old" sewing machines, and a few electronic too. Guess which ones I use. The old works better and needs less repair.

Hey Dotty, I hope "your guy" gets your machine up and running again. It may just be something minor. If not, I have this great little machine that was called a heavy duty school machine when I bought it. It's a White product that has 3 stitch sizes, 3 zigzags, a buttonhole, and a blind hem stitch. It's the machine I like to use when I do machine quilting. At the time, I paid 149 for it...but that was many years ago. It's a rugged little machine that sews well on jeans, so it really is a heavy duty. My Singer 404 is also a very faithful machine. Only does straight stitching with a reverse button. Most beautiful stitch of all the machines I own (even the Janome 4000).

I would also encourage you to look at an older machine. I have a 4 year old Janomie I got when my 20 year old machine died. It is fine, but since then I've bought a Singer 66, a Featherweight, and a Necchi. The Janomie is now my back up. I just love the older machines, they rarely break down, if they do they can actually be repaired. They are work horses. Just my 2 cents.

Call your local Pfaff and/or Baby Lock dealer. I recommend buying from a dealer so you can get instruction on your machine and also help when you may need it in the future.

Sometimes you can get great bargains on used machines at the sewing centers. That's where I got my Babylock Ellageo many years ago.

I've had a Janome Gem for about 15 years, its a workhorse and travels well for classes as it is so lightweight. I love it.

You might only need a simple fix on the Kenmore...I am a fan. I bought mine for $175 10 years ago and its run like a dream, and my sewing machine guy said its a solid, quality machine. I understand that some of the Kenmores are made by Janome.
