I used this pattern that has 2 1/2" strips because I wanted to use jelly rolls. There are a whole lot of setting styles at the bottom too.

This link has the instructions. It is very easy, just a whole lot of straight seams.

Thanks for the link Pam - hadn't seen some of those layouts and I love log cabins! You can QAYG them too - they work up really quick!

That's so pretty. I'm thinking of doing my next quilt as a log cabin. Love it.

It does go together quickly. I sewed one set of 17 blocks on one weekend, then on another weekend I did the other 19 blocks and sewed all the rows together. I suppose if it was tied that it could be done start to finish in a week.

Pam, I cut squares of calico and batting a little bigger than the finished block then sew the log cabin directly on; I don't even pre-cut the strips - just trim them square when sewn on. Then you just trim the blocks up and piece then QAYG method - pieced and quilted in one hit! You can always add a second, decorative backing if you bon't like all the seams on the back and just ditch quilt round the blocks or tie to hold it. I've done this with my own cut strips but keep looking at jelly rolls thinkin - got to get some of those, bet I could make a quilt in an afternoon!
