I sent you a PM but then decided maybe I should post it here

Your quilt is so pretty, It is the kind of quilt I LOVE!! It even looks like I could do it without a patter an. Something I have NEVER done.
I have one question, maybe 2. How wide and long are your strips??
How big are the white triangles that make the star. That is how you do it isn't it??
I THINK it wouldn't matter as long as they were all the same but I LOVE what you have done.
You can either answer here or on the form I will watch both.
I am thinking I could make one with the stars being red and blue with the white piece in between and then the other strips all scrappy??? Do you think that would work??

Thank you so much for all you add to the QB

dinlauren, I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. It's one thing to be shot by enemy fire, but I don't think I could handle my loved one being shot in training or by 'friendly fire'. I was horrified when my son was in the Marine Corps and he mentioned they practiced with live ammo. Gives new meaning to the phrase 'keep your head down'.

GrandmK, the strips are 2 1/2". Four strips = 10", so they finished at 8 1/2". After strip sewing as much as possible, I cut 8.5" blocks. You could do it totally scrappy by cutting 2.5 x 8.5 strips. The white sashing strips were the same size with a HST on each end. The starry squares were cut 2.5". I put one right sides together on each end of the white and sewed on the diagonal. Make sure both seams are in the same direction. Trim off the extra. Some of the strips got a 2.5 block added for the center of the star - just where you'd use a cornerstone. This is where the design wall was handy as you don't use sashing and cornerstones on all four sides of the block. As you can see, alternating blocks were rotated 90 degrees. I wish I'd saved the name of the person whose quilt I used as inspiration. She deserves the credit for this one.

Wonderful quilt, and please thank your grandson for us. My grandson is in the Kansas National Guard and just returned from The Horn of Africa. Now they may want to send him to Iraq.
