I can't really make the paws any smaller. Tiny pieces and I don't play well together. It's 3" x 3" now.
I've been searching online for a fabric full of cat paws (so I wouldn't need to piece any paw prints at all) but I didn't find any that I liked or that I thought she would like.
And making it a single row didn't look right when I tried it. I wanted it to (however remotely) suggest that a cat had really walked on the borders.
I guess maybe I'm going to have to try applique, which I don't do well and don't really like how it looks on quilts.
But we'll see.
I'll get this bugger done one way or the other. :)

I think that will add a lot. Especially if there is a strip of lighter fabric between the quilt and paw border. JMO.

There's no need for you to feel you need to applique.
The cats are squarish ... so it stands to reason their paws would be squarish! :)

I have a couple of suggestions. I haven't quilted very long but when I look at your picture, I was wondering if you put a lighter border between the cats and the paws? Also, have you considered putting a lighter background with the paws? Just a thought and looking forward to seeing a picture of what you decide to do.

I believe OP said she didn't like paper piecing.
