I'm starting a huge project (7 quilts) and will be needing ALOT of white kona for it. Like 40 yds. Anyone know a good place to purchase it by the bolt or should I just keep using my 40% coupons at Hobby Lobby??

Hancocks-Paducah offers a quantity discount on Kona solids - it would be $4.78/yard. I don't know if that's less than HL w/coupon.

You might also ask your LQS for a deal if they special order it for you. Although the freight might be a deal breaker.

I saw this for $4.05 a yard but I have never ordered from these people before.

I just got 10 yards of black Kona cotton from Hancock's of Paducah on the recommendation of Lacelady. There are a bunch of us (I think 80 already!) who are going to be doing the Affairs of the Heart Quilt on June 5th. http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1028

I was very pleased with the weight of this fabric. I washed a yard of it just to see about shrinking and general laundering and was so happy to see it measure 44" AFTER washing!

So my recommendation is for Hancock's of Paducah - 100%

I agree. I buy bolts of Kona solids from HoP quite often and their quality and customer service cannot be beat. Their price is one of, if not THE, best online.

Buying 40 yards at HOP with shipping it comes to 5.10775 a yard.

If you buy at Joann's with a 40% off coupon it is 4.19 a yard! If you are unable to find full bolts on the rack at joann's have them order it for you, you can still use a coupon on full bolt fabric orders! At least I have been able to. and you pay for the fabric when you order it not when you pick it up so if you have the coupon go have the order it and then its not a guessing game of "Will I have a good coupon when the fabric comes in?"

ETA: The other place still isn't as cheap as Joann's because...at the 40 yards price it would be 4.69875 a yard with shipping, if you bought 50 yards (with the price 4.05 a yard) after shipping it would be 4.4096 a yard!

I believe the stuff sold by Joannes is not always the same as Kona Kaufman branded cotton. Hence the price difference. There have been many threads about this if you want to read more...

Here's a link that explains it pretty well http://www.flickr.com/groups/robertk...7626026829436/

Right, the link I specified above is about looking at the label to make sure you're getting Kaufman Kona. It's rather deceptive in MHO.

I think the kona at hobby lobby is the same price as joann's (for some reason I thought the OP said she had been buying fabric at Joann's. its one of those days.) so either way if the OP is paying less than 4.40 a yard(with a coupon) I would keep buying what I was already buying!

Thats the point that I was getting at.
