I think this all proves that
..... old 4-H'ers never stop being 4-H members ... and they find new projects to do, namely quilting!
I bet our 4-H years have helped us with the commitment to work thru many of our quilting challenges and stick-to-it-ness to get things done.
And even to have that haunting in us when UFOs and PhDs are left sitting. Kind of reminding us about panics before Club deadlines, County Fairs, Achievement Days, etc! :)

I learned to sew in 4-H starting in the late 1940's and into the early 50's. one leader had a treadle machine we used. I used my g'mother's machine she brought from the Netherlands in 1911. I still have the machine - a treasure !!! It is a table top-hand crank with a wooden case.

I was in 4-H in 1956 and 1957. I had Ducks in the SaCo club and in the happy 4-H's sewing club.. We made a Pin custion, apron and a skirt that had elastic in the waist. Then we entered them at the fairs in the fall...

I was a 4-H er too. I sewed, cooked, canned, made over my room. The best sewing lessons I ever had were from 4-H when I was a kid. The program teaches you so much about life. We all had to keep records of expenses, etc.

HEad, heart, hand, health if I remember right. Yes from ager 10 -18. Was a jr laeder. Only things my group leaders offered was domestic. First project was a skirt made from a feed sack, won a blue ribbon; it went to state fair. My Mom was very proud.
I made lots of friends & had a blast going to special things.
