I've seen the spool discs for sale in assorted sizes per package. Very inexpensive.

For the bigger cones I use a metal stand that sets behind the machine, (just from my opinion I tried a plastic one and it was money wasted..it might work if you fill the base with cement or plaster). For smaller spools that don't fit my holder I have purchased, at a fabric store a wooden adapter that works really well, though their are some spools of thread that are smaller than even the adapter works for, so in that case I use a straw and it works wonderfully.

I purchased a holder from Hancock Fabrics it sits on the table near your machine and holds the large spools it was only about 7 dollars and I love mine.

but before i knew they existed i made my own from a dritz adapter for the large cone, i just cut the outside pieces of plastic off and then used sandpaper to smooth the edhes, it works so well that i've never bought the wooden ones!

JoAnn's sells a thingy to handle that. It is plastic and sells for under $5. You just sit it behind your machine and thread as usual. I presume you are talking about the large cones.

my husband made several for my quilting group, out of a piece of 2x4 put a dowl for the spoon of thread on one end and used a metal hanger cut off with a loop on the top for the thread to flow through cheap and works great. they are painted also

I have thread from Connecting Thread but my Viking comes with caps of different sizes that you put on after you put spool of thread on machine spindle. What brand is your machine, you might check to see if your machine came with these caps or can you get them.

I bought a cheap holder at Joanns. It set on the table behind my machine works fine.

Angie Padilla uses an old cd storage container, but what ever you use be sure to use the pin on the post method to keep a stray thread from winding up in your wheel on the side of the machine. That is a nightmare you don't want, it necessitates a trip to the repair shop.
