As long as you've had a tetnus shot recently you should be OK, if it's been over ten yrs call your Dr or go t urgent care for one. Keep the wound clean and use tri-antibiotic cream on the would and keep it bandaged and dry. If the wound becomes reddened, throbs and the pain increases go to urgent care or the ER immediately. I did this whenI was 5 with a treadle machine not an electric one. Since then I keep my fingers out of the way and have never repeated the injury. That's a big OUCH alright!

I've been sewing since 15 years old and I'm 48 now. I had never ever done that before . . . that is until last labor day weekend. Of course my husband was away and I was alone and was sewing at night and the fabric bunched up as I was starting a seam. Stuck my finger in there to flatten it out and forgot to take my foot off the pedal and BAM . . . right through my nail and all the way through to the other side of my finger. OUCH!! It hurt something awful and I was in shock. Luckily the needle came out and stayed on the machine, because if I would have had to pull it out I would have fainted. As it was, I still almost fainted pulling the thread out that was stuck through my finger. Needless to say . . . I am a lot more careful where I put my fingers and I make sure if they are anywhere near that needle that my foot is OFF the pedal. We all have to be careful out there. My friends make fun of me for my "SEWING ACCIDENT". Oh well . . . hope you're OK!!

My exhusband did this to himself once with my 1941 Singer...which fortunately has the wheel thing so you can turn it and move the needle right back up really fast, which he tried to do but moved it the wrong way---and you guessed it---the needle went right back through his fingernail again. He said some choice words but was fine.

Ouch!! Did that once with an electric air stapler for furniture. It happens so fast and gets numb right away. (thankfully) Pulled it out with a pliers, cleaned and bandaged it and kept going. Drawing salve is a good idea to pull any foreign stuff out of there. Hope it heals quickly.

WATCH CAREFULLY FOR INFECTION! one of my best friends dh died of blood poisoning from a relatively small cut in his foot from a sharp metal shaving that went thru his sneaker @ work.... he just had flu symptoms.. and a little swelling around the site on his foot...
those sewing machine needles have oil and other contaminates on them....
i know i'm paranoid.. but such a sad, stupid way to go!
