I had never heard of Whittles so I looked at their web site. I was looking for 1930's Reproduction charm packs and they don't have them...or at least I couldn't find them if they do.

I've never had a problem with their fabric being cheap so I'll continue to buy from them.

I have ordered from both and have always been happy with anything I have purchased from either one.

I have never ordered from CT, but I have been to Whittles and bought quite a bit of fabric. They carry many brands and all that I bought was excellent quality and the price was good too. The people were very nice and friendly. I recommend it highly.

I order from CT, especially when they have their sales. I am a beginner quilter, but make many other items and I like purchasing charms, FQs, etc. I just went through
whittles, for the first time, and couldn't find any listings for charms, etc. Many patterns and designers to choose from but I don't think I would be ordering from them too often.

I live in Ky and Whittles is about 30 miles from me. I went there and purchased some material. I love it, you couldn't ask for any no better. I have just started quilting, but I have sewed for close to 50 years. I worked in sewing factories for 10 years. I pretty well check my material well.

I have ordered from CT's and while I won't "rave" about the quality of ALL their fabrics, I think most of their fabrics are a good value for the price. My LQS easily charges $9.99 per yd and higher. CT won't cost you anywhere near as much. but SOME of what you get from CT, MAY NOT be the top of the line quality fabrics either. I had put out a thread on the board here recently, asking people's opinion's on the quality of their fabrics and about ordering from CT and it touched off a storm of opinions about some stuff that honestly never mattered to me. I ended up buying some sample fat quarters of a couple of color choices that I wanted for a large wedding gift quilt and wanted to get the samples before ordering a huge quantity of fabric for the quilt.

Both colors were OK but the fabrics were somewhat thinner than what I'm used to buying. I decided to use only one of the two fabrics for the wedding quilt that I ordered samples for. Everything else I bought . . . was yards and yards of gorgeous fabrics that I loved and recommend highly. And for the sale price of $3.00 per yard, the other fabrics I order were nice and soft and thick and just as good as LQS fabric. So you never quite know when you order online. But over all, I have been very happy with most of my online purchases of fabric.

So, some of their fabrics I was thrilled with and some I wasn't so much. I think you need to order a fat quarter of what you might like and check it out if you are concerned. But they do have a "No hassle" return policy. I have never ordered from Whittles so I will have to check them out. But FYI. . . I also LOVE fabric.com.

i've seen a lot of opinions thrown around in this topic regarding "quality". i've edited some of them.

it is accurate to describe the fabrics sold by Connecting Threads as unique. they are very different to what you'll find anywhere else.

it is not accurate to imply or to state that they are in any way of inferior quality. they are some of the nicest fabs available in their price range if their color pallettes appeal to you. once they go on sale, they are a fantastic bargain.

let's all remember, please, that "quality" is for the most part a matter of opinion. we each have our preferences when it comes to color, weight and weave of the fabric, etc.

where you buy your fabrics will never guarantee how nice the fabrics are, let alone whether or not they are of the sort you like best.

i have purchased a few fabs from online and in-person LQS that - once washed - were no different to some i've bought at walmart. (well ... ok ... the prices were different. )

the wise thing to do is to buy just one or two pieces from lines you find interesting and that fall within your budget. make note of those that thrilled you and those that left you cold. over time, you'll decide for yourself which to buy more of in future and which to avoid.
