Has anyone from the USA had a surgery performed in Mexico on the QB??

My girlfriend had the lap band in Mexico.
She lost some weight but not a lot.
A year after the surgery something happened to the band and it came off.
She was close to death, before they figured out what was going on. It adhered to her liver and other organs.
She has so much scar tissue and has not been the same since.
We almost lost her.

Well, another consideration. Purto Rico. Docs trained in the states. I'm moving there in 6 mo...husband's job..and plan to have eyes, tiny face lift (get rid of jowls) and tummy tuck. Just continue your search.

Our daughter had an accident in Cozumel. I would not recommend that hospital. She is a Nurse Practioner and said it was pretty bad. I would really be careful. What is the rate of MRSA at the hospital? That is really important now.

my RNY was Nov of 2009. I can never gain the wht back or I will die. I had the best surgeon that Tennessee had at Vanderbilt hospital. Yes, I spent most of a yr getting ready. Went through a cardiologist, pulmonary spec.,Psycology test, and dr visits for each mth before the surgery. It saved my life and I can never, never gain the wht back.

Hi,
My son and family spend 2-3 months in Mexico every spring. They have gotten to know a lot of retired americans and canadians who winter down there (they are in SanCarlos which is near Guaymas). Anyway, they have gotten really good reviews of the larger hospitals - one friend had emergency heart surgery and did really well. Another had abdominal surgery (I don't know what kind) and loved her doc and nurses - also did fine. He was told that if they know you don't speak spanish they make every attempt to ensure your nurse speaks english well. Also, when I was there in Feb to visit, the man on the next sailboat (their winter home) said that all his doctors had been US trained.
Can't give you any other info. Good luck. I had the same procedure in US about 5 years ago and it cost me $32,000 (all out of my pocket) for hospital, surgeon, and anesthesia. And I was only in the hospital 48 hours!
You can PM me if you have questions.

Just a caution. I know nothing about that type of surgery in Mexico, but I do know that a friend of my daughter was at a luxury resort for a family wedding somewhere in Mexico where rich people go and she was walking on the beach and her leg just plain broke. They rushed her to the local hospital and a supposed orthopod did a very expensive surgery on her leg and they had to pre-pay with a credit card before they would do the surgery. They had to hire a van to drive her back to PA and she saw her local Dr. for after-surgery care. He didn't like the looks of it but kept an eye on it and it was not healing right. They eventually had to take her to a specialist in Pittsburgh, who did many x-rays and found that the rod they had inserted was not only misplaced but not even connected on one end and had damaged the bone badly. Of course, they had to make arrangements to later re-do the surgery and try to take out the damage and re-do the whole thing. She was recovering and going to therapy for many months. I know this is long, but I just wanted you to know how badly things can go, even if you are in an area where rich people are medically treated and still, bad things can happen. Do your research well.

Due to the problems throughtout Mx there are a lot of professionals moving to the states. I live in a border town and we are being affected by the influx of people. You need to check around for pricing. they are always advertising in our area and they have seminars at the hsopitals. We do have a lot of obese people, sorry to say, in our area.

Charisma, do you know where you would be staying? Things are so bad in Mexico that I'd be afraid to go there. Do you know anyone in the area you'd be staying? Would you be going alone? I read in a magazine how many people go to other countries for surgery but what about the follow-ups? Think long and hard.

This morning on Good Morning America they had a guest who reported about the FABULOUS weight losses people can attain by eliminating sugar, flour and fried foods from your diet (I'd also caution about too much fat intake). He also stressed to drink a minimum of 2 quarts of water a day, and as much as 4 quarts if you can. It flushes out toxins, lubricates the organs, helps clean the colon, and makes you feel full...plus your skin loves and needs it!
My next door neighbors in their 70's have never looked
better since eliminating everything white from their diets.
My sister looked better than ever in her life after using Phenergan diet pills for 6 months. Ended up in Emergency, had to have cardiac rescusitation (the shock paddles) twice while her DH had to stand and watch! After all that, she gained it all back and then some because she still didn't learn how and what to eat.
A dear friend, an RN, went through bypass surgery, but she too didn't learn to change her diet. She lost weight at first, but eventually stretched the little stomach she had remaining till it became the same size as original. She gained every pound back.
Surgery is so invasive! Who can say what degree of sterile conditions and skill any of the Mexican facilities employ?
