You can also start with two larger squares and after you sew around the sides and cut diagonally both directions, you can cut another square the new size when the pinwheel is opened and contue by sewing around the new squares, cut diagonally and add another.It's fun

I found this information somewhere and copied it in my quilting notebook.
setting triangle: for a 6-inch block use a 9 3/4inch sq
" " 9-inch block use a 14" sq
" " 10-inch block use a 15 3/8 sq
" " 12-inch block use a 18 1/4" s
This may help.
