I am making a civil war quilt and wondering would you use all material from the civil war collection or would others look OK?

you can use any fabrics you like- it's your project.

one year i made 3 underground railroad quilts- one done in 1800's reproduction fabs,
one done in 30's fabrics and white...
and one done in batiks....
all 3 are beautiful!

when i work with 1800 repro's at times i need to add other fabrics- i try to stay in the same color range/or i stick with adding solids instead of prints that look too modern- if i find a print that looks from the right era i use it.

Anything goes if you stick with muted colors. I made about a dozen Civil War quilts - Log Cabin quilts - and just looked through my stash when I ran out of a fabric. Just stay away from modern BRIGHT colors and you'll be fine!

Thanks, thats the hard job deciding on colors. I am not good at that. Most always take someone else along for their opinion.

I think you could use any fabric you want. Just stay with the muted shades.

I did not use civil war fabrics. You can judge for yourself if other fabrics look okay

I'm making on myself right now and I'm using anything that has the "drabbish" tone of the Civil War line of fabrics.

I've done three and I've taken classes with then all. I've only used reproduction material. I did not always use the material supplied in class because I really enjoy using alot of colors so I did a search for the reproduction and now I have a good stash so I just started on a new one and will probably make one block with the shops material and one with mine choice. We had one lady make one using all Christmas fabric; it was pretty wild but all of her grandchildren fought over who would get it. It's up to the individual; if it's important to use all reproduction then do so if not make it to suit yourself or the one who will get it in the end.
