Welcome - you are coming to a great area. There are lots of quilt shops within about an hour. Here are a few of my favorites:

Howell: Wendy's Simple Stitches (great little store) on South Michigan Avenue.
Brighton: Creative Quilt Kits (great and unusual fabrics) on West Grand River.
Pinckney: Jennifer's Quilt Shop (little store but lots of fabrics) on N. Howell St.
Ann Arbor: Ann Arbor Sewing Center (lots, lots of fabric) on Jackson Road.
Leabu Sewing Center (some fabric but can repair any machine around and done on-site) on N. Industrial.
Saline: The Quilting Season (creative and friendly) on Michigan Avenue.
Tecumseh: The Quilt Patch (over 6500 bolts) on Tecumseh
Jackson: Country Stitches (right off 127 and 94)
Lansing: Country Stitches, on Lake Lansing Road
Holt: Everlasting Stitches, on N. Aurelius Road

My son's in-laws live on Big Portage, right off McGregor. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi Sue! I am excited for you to be moving here! I'm in Westland, not far from Pinckney, about 40 miles. Let me know when you get settled in would love to meet more local QBers.

Welcome to Michigan - born and raised here myself - I love it here. I live in Monroe but my heart is upnorth in my beloved woods. Hope to move there soon. Hope you like it here too.

Wow, this lady is some serious fabric shopper! Love the list. We live in Wixom, a bit east of your haunts! I've hit a few of those shops and will probably go to a few more now.

The Stitchery in Howell is one of my favorites, like their batiks. Also go to Guildcrafters on 12 Mile Rd in Berkley, they have a nice selection of a varity of fabric styles. On Main St. in South Lyon you will find The Lake Street Merchantile. They have many wool fabrics although that's not why I go there. Not sure when it was built but the building is/was the oldest bank in Oakland County -- the vault is all fabric that's marked down.

Welcome to MI. I'm originally from MT, so know what you mean about going somewhere to get there! :)

katy - Love the Mercantile but those stairs kill me

Have you ever been to Imlay City or Marlette? You'd love the store in Marlette - it's in an old fire station.
