I've made this cake for years and you are right, it is wonderful. It is a family favorite here. Sometimes I put a layer chocolate between the layers with extra coconut. I like it both ways.

What is it called? BTW I keep buttermilk on hand at all times. It's a fast seller in south GA.

We call this Italian Cream Cake. I bake it in three 9" pans. I add finely chopped pecans to the frosting. It makes a beautiful cake, picture pretty.
