Since you can't make up your mind - why not buy both. Then try them out for a while. Then if you decide which one you like the best, you can always sell the other. Just a thought.

I have a Janome and I LOVE it, they are very dependable and almost work too well. LOL It really runs good.

That's exactly what I was thinking! It sure makes sense to me! You can use them both a while to get the feel of them and then keep the one you like and sell the other! You just might make a profit, too!!

There is a really good little machine out there that weighs only 5lbs! It is simple, no light, only 3 straight stitches, 3 zigzag widths. It is a Janome Mini, and the stitch quality is very good. Bought it to "take". Most classes don't require anything but a good straight stitch so limited stitches is not a deal. Wait till you hear what I paid for it, the best part, $49.95, on clearance at Ashby's in Kennesaw,Ga. Am very happy with it, can throw it in a tote and go.

The Janome would be the one for a lighter machine. The singer would be the one for a workhorse machine. Oh well, just get both. :)

I'd definitely go for the Janome. Last Singer I bought did NOT have metal parts - wouldn't sew... tried to use it for 6 months and gave it to maid - and bought Janome Gem Gold - great little machine. Easy to carry and take on retreats.
