what does your hand under the quilt do while hand quilting??

I have only been quilting for a little over a year and I bought Deidre McElroy's That Perfect Stitch DVD and it has really helped. One tip that I got that sounds gross but really works is, when your done quilting for the day put some preparation H on the sore spot and by morning it feels much better. Good luck

Don't laugh at this tip.
When my fingure gets sore Before I go to bed I put preparation H on my finger and cover with a band aid or tape the next morning like magic no sore finger. As a hand quilter this is the best tip I ever found.
You do need to feel the prick underneath. Hang in there.
Let me know if you try this.

You might want to look in to "spoon quilting" where a (special) spoon is used instead of your finger to get the needle back to the top side of the quilt. A "google" will get you a video showing the top andbottom of the quilt.

Thee is product out called "ThimblePad". "Works like a thimble...feels like a dream". Got mine at Hancocks. It is made by The Colonial Needle Co. (www.colonialneedle.com or #1800-9-needle) They are little leather pads with an adhesive backing on them. They are reusable and there is no slipping or thread catching. They come #12 to a pack and thought it would take all 12 to finish a wallhanging, but one went a loooong way and that was taking it on and off quite often. When I was 3/4 of the way through I started using a second one and it still has alot of life in it. I would highly recommend these.
