Why does everyone wash their quilt as soon as the last stitch is completed?

I am not the greatest quilter, but I wash all the fabric in warm water (each color separate with a color catcher). And let it shrink.
When it is finished I wash the quilt in warm water with another color catcher. If the color catcher has any color on it I send a box of color catchers with it and washing directions.
I use warm and natural/white batting.
It does shrink to a nice crinkly look.
Anyone else do this?

I wash all materials before I even sew. Although like you I have to admit I do like the new look and feel of material :) and as others say, after you sew the first and grim as well as finding mistakes come out. happy quilting. :)

My quilts never touch the floor. I pin them on tables at church, quilt in a frame, and the may by accident touch the floor when I unpin them from the frame, but that doesn't make them dirty. It is clean.
