I am a traditional pattern girl with modern fabrics - also love the quicky quilts too - haven't tried applique yet nor have I tried paper-piecing - but its great to have all the options now. If I had to cut each piece with scissors - I am sure that I wouldn't be doing this.

For 'functional' quilts, my style is contemporary with primarily optical illusions or dimensional designs (like my avatar). For art quilts, I go with non-representational abstracts, most often using geometrics. I don't use patterns, don't like scrappy, and have no need for speed. For me, the joy is in the process.

I have only been quilting for a few years so I think my style is evolving. I've definitely taken a liking to the more modern, graphic quilts with lots of white. However, I'm finding myself contemplating some patterns that are a little more complex, more interesting. I like the idea of traditional patterns in modern fabrics and color combinations.

I agree that the quickie patterns have helped increase my skill level but I am wanting more, I think. I would like to learn applique.

Traditional patterns. I only do the quicky new ones for donated pieces. So saying it takes me on average a year to complete a quilt. During that time I also do some wallhanging, baby quilts, and donation quilts.

I am a beginner, tho prolific quilter. I never go to classes, don't buy patterns, enjoy finishing old quilt squares and triangles I find and other pre-cut pieces. When there is no more of one kind of fabric, that is as much as will go in the quilt. Thanks to a ridiculous recycling store nearby, I have enough fabric to last 2 lifetimes, but will buy LQS goods if I feel the urge.

I tear out patterns out of quilting mags and have a "book" for inspiration. Or, the inspiration is a quilting library book. I say I am a beginner because I primarily work with squares.

I love scrap bags, other people's castoffs. I have made fabulous scrap quilts (utilitarian) and even made a king size quilt solely out of 2 inch squares......yes, that is alot of squares.

I feel restricted by recipe patterns for quilts. I go to my local quilt guild to be educated on quilting, as I am self-taught. I enjoy my craft very much. A great thread.....

Definitely traditional. I still use all those old fashioned calicos and only do hand quilting. I like being stuck in the old days! :)

Traditional patterns, modern prints. I love bold graphic designs of two or three colors in a medium scale. Call it kitsch or retro, but I love the atomic age aesthetic! Combining it with traditional patterns that have been used for generations is very "me." I'm definitely a modern woman, but I hold a very deep respect for all the women that came before me and paved the way. I feel like by adopting their craft and continuing it into today and the future, I am honoring and remembering everything they did.

Hmm, I guess I lean towards traditional patterns. I like complex blocks and stars, especially mariners compass, NYB or any block that gives an optical illusion like attic window or tumbling blocks or the new hollow blocks done ala OBW method. I also love PP and the sharp points that can be acheived with it. I like newer patterns like twisted log cabin and bargellos. So I would say I have a very eclectic quilting style and like old and new. I hand quilt and I LA quilt. I have pieced with templates and PP and speed pieced. I think if the piecing challenges me I like it. Would love to get my feet more wet with applique. Thus far I have only done fusible applique or the most basic of shapes with turned under seam allowance. Want to learn needle turn.

Traditional combined with applique. Love civil war era (currently working on civil war tribute quilt and the patriots in petticoats. Love sampler quilts too. Let's me combine all sorts of different blocks. I also like "controlled scrappy" I guess you would call it. Love lots of different fabrics in a quilt but has to be in some sort of controlled design. But my absolute favorite is applique.
