    Yes you can do it and the bigger it gets the more you need to keep it squared..following picture is a small example..with a technique called (shading) where you repeat the light and dark on each side..comes out very pretty !!     Here's a baby quilt I made. It's probably not what you were thinking of but larger pieces would make it go faster and make it easier to square up as you went.

    you can make one large quilt sized log cabin, however it turns out much better if you use an even feed or walking foot. If not the drag from the top layer will give you curved sides. Other than that you will have to alternate the directions when sewing strips...hard to keep track of so much easier to use the walking foot. If you have that feature built into your machine, and some newer ones do, so much the better.

    Sorry to hear that you hurt yourself, but it is a good time to design your quilt. I would think that any log cabin pattern block could be made into a quilt. I would try to be certain that my cuts were very accurate, and that my 1/4 inch seam was accurate also. The longer the strips are, the more little discrepancies show
