yes, but read the labels..some are NOT just cotton..and they may have the anti wrinkle stuff on them...I found those to be hard to sew through..the needles poked holes, and then the threads wanted to run....so I make sure it is 100% cotton with NO finish on it!

You bet. The quilts turn out wonderful. The shirt material is something you will never find at the LQS. I hit the local Goodwill about once a month, and but XXL mens shirts with long sleeves.

A few years ago, I bought a next to new man's shirt (white, Arrow) , took out the sleeves, took off the front pocket, ripped back yoke loose from shirt back, inserted some wide cotton eylet lace on the back and on the pocket and now I have very cute white sleeveless shirt.

I made each of my four children a king size quilt out of old shirt backs. My husband had a collection of different size shirts with his illness over the years. To good to pitch and didn't fit. Can't bring myself to pitch anything, so, I cut 8 inch squares and put a white strip X in each and than around each. Looks like they belong on a patio. I took into consideration the colors of bedrooms for the boarders. Embroidered on the back Daddy's shirts and mama's scraps. Quilted by Mom with Daddy's help. Gave them to the kids for christmas while Daddy is still with us. They picked out some of the shirts with stories and memories on the farm. I learned to piece better use up the shirts and new room for new material. The kids love them.
