I forget the name. It is definately not the add a quarter ruler. It is a ruler that is 1/2 inch wide. It has slots in the center that allow you to draw a line down the center of a square. Then you can trace down each side. You sew on the outer lines, and cut on the center line to make perfect half Square triangles. I will hunt down the ruler and give you the name. My ruler is some where safe awaiting my attention.

I draw two diagonal lines, one on either side of the tool and sew along those. I don't know why, because I usually sew pretty accurate 1/4" seams (or scant 1/4") but I can't seem to sew 1/4" on each side of a drawn line. I can cut down the middle without a drawn line, so don't need that one. I think that if there is a tool that makes the job easier, then use it!

I have one and love it! I use it to create HST from 2 squares, and to draw 1/4" lines when hand piecing. Very handy.

The half inch ruler is perfect for El Burns method of making 8 HST at a time. Using two large squares and drawing an X with the half inch ruler works best for me than just one line.
Im straight line sewing handicaped. Always crooked.

I'm not very good at sewing ON a line. I do better with the line drawn down the middle (corner to corner for HST). I use the quarter inch foot and guide the edge of the foot (the quarter inch thingy) along the line. I set my needle at a scant quarter.
Of course, that's what I am used to doing because I don't have the ruler being discussed.

I like mine; anything for a little accuracy.
