Hello, My name is Pat I am from Texas. I have been sewing since I was a child, but quilting only for about 3 years. I just want to say that I get discouraged about a quilt when I work so hard to create perfect 1/4 inch seams and I still end up off when putting my blocks together. Does anyone else have that problem or what can I do to make my quilting better? I do try to quilt or sewing every minute I can. Can't wait to make new quilting friends.

Happens all the time to even the most experienced of quilters. Sometimes you can pin pin pin and ease those points and seams to match. Some put a drop of Elmers school glue before doing the seam to get the points to match (it washes out) and sometimes ya just gotta say "good enough" (my favorite solution) Welcome to the board.

Welcome! I'm not sure I have the 1/4 inch down yet either! One thing toe can do is find out where the 1/4 inch seam ends & put a physical barrier there. A stack of small post-its works nice. Then you have a guide to go by. Good luck!

Thank you. I have 1/4 inch foot and I think I got it and then its not as I wish it could be. I will just have to keep trying until I get it.

Pat, Welcome to the board. Perfection is something we all strive for yet never attain. I bought a 1/4" foot for my sewing machine. It made a big difference. Also, when I am joining two seams, I press them in opposite directions and then butt them up against each other, put a pin right where the seams line up. I also learned to slow down when I sew. For me, faster was not better. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain. I try really REALLY hard to do 1/4" seams but they still don't always come out right. And then the whole quilt gets off when the borders aren't quite right. Whoever said you have to learn "good enough" is right.
