I'm so glad I have a good size stash. I also look for bargains.

Here in Australia most local quilt stores have been selling their fabric for $20+ per metre and even though our dollar has been strong against the US dollar they rarely reduce their prices except for sales and then they may drop to $16-$18 per metre and that is only for some fabrics. I still support the local stores but prefer to buy online for larger pieces of fabric. Thankfully I have a large stash of fabric and really don't need to buy anymore but I just can't resist a bargain.

I totally agree with you-and it isn't even made here in the states anymore. Send our factory's overseas and jack the price.

I once paid $15 for only 2 yards of fabric. More than I like to spend but it was backing fabric and It is 108 wide. But most generally I prefer the $5 a yard or lower when possible.

The price of fabric is going up but so is everything else we buy. Now's the time to hit your stash.

The best sales are on ling. Try Quilt in a day .com and connecting treads.com. Both have great sales.

My LQS has done the same thing and she hasn't even gotten in any "new" fabrics. I didn't buy from her when they were $8 a yard and I sure am not going to buy from her now. Wholesale fabric does not cost near what is being charged and I find price gouging to be very distasteful. I won't shop there anymore.
Wholesale costs, at best, between $2 and $2.50/yd. Last time I bought (about 2 months ago), designer fabric was $2.25/yd, 15 yd minimum.
I would really like to know where these wholesale costs are . Where are you buying?

I felt the same when I went last week. I am only buying for things I actually need. The problem is I make my own dresses to wear mostly around the house. And I make them out of cotton. I figured out it would be over $30 for me to make a house dress. ACK!!! That I cannot afford. I can't always find things I like for dresses in the sale racks.
