If you use instant, you can vary the depth of color by using more or less of the coffee crystals.

I heard you can put some vanIlla in the coffee if you don't like the smell. I love coffee but can't stand the smell of dried coffee.

I've also had good luck using tan Rit dye to make it look tea dyed. It looks good and lasts foever.

I made my wedding dress and dyed it with tea, it took a long time, but came out nice and "antique-y" but now I want to do more dying with natural things. So we dyed some muslim with wild black berries, the color is really wonderful! But I am afraid to wash it now, I don't want to lose the color, I will have to try throwing it in the dryer to set the color.

How much white vinegar do you have to add? and can you add it way after it has been dyed?

I really like working with natural dyes, I think it is easier on the environment and fun too! I also like the idea of balck walnuts, I know black walnuts will stain your hands for a long time when you shell them.

I don't think it needs setting.
I have never had a problem with color retention.
