If you have the fabric I would continue the pattern on the sides so it doesn't look cut off too. I would go with a dark rose color the darker pink/rose color of the quilt. It would not take away the view's eye from the beautiful florels. I think a blue would fight with the fabrics.
It's a beautiful quilt and you did a great job. It's basically like a bargello and trip around the world....so I would finish the "pattern" if you can!

I agree! Lay it out the way you want it and look @ it several times. It may look chopped off and you need to know before you sew. The top and bottom borders do not have to be the same width as the sides. I would do a 1 1/2" blue inner border all the way around and then floral 9 or 10" sides and maybe 5" top and bottom. You can always fold over the top a little to fit! Just my 2 cents!

Yes, you can do that. Your quilt, your rules.
Audition the borders you want (pin them in place), step back and take a look.
Walk away. Go shopping. Go to work. When you return take another look.
No rush. Think about it until you're happy.

Quilt looks beautiful.

I'm a new quilter also -- what I am learning is that there are no rules -- you can be creative and do what you want! This from a person who before beginning to quilt, never deviated from a pattern! Your quilt top is beautiful. I like the suggestion of pinning on the borders and going about your business, then looking at it again and again if necessary until you are happy with the finished look.

What a beautiful beginning of a quilt. Whatever you add to the sides to make it larger will only make it more beautiful. Terrific job.

What a gorgeous quilt. I am not sure how you would finish it to make it longer on the sides. I am sure some of out board friends will help you out. First quilt, you go girl.

Goodluna, I'd love to see a picture of your blocks. I had saved mcdaniels pics of the first block and of the finished quilt and think I looked at them every day and liked them more each time....until I made up my mind....I HAD to have one like that.

I had to order my fabric from Hobby Lobby online but now one JUST OPENED YESTERDAY right near me...heading there this evening. Only problem is that we'll be heading back to FL in 5 weeks and the closest Hobby Lobby is over an hour way...LOL.

Can you get enough floral to make some more blocks? I think that would be my preference. If not, how about a narrow border then wide border?
