Vertigo....interferring with quilting time! HELP
#11
Yes I have had an episode of that x 3. I went to the EENT specialist the first time thinking it was an ear infection. They do a maneuver called the Epley or Particle Repositoning Maneuver. (I am typing from the paper they gave me) and that helped after a couple days.. The second time I had it I had to wait a while and the symptoms did lesson but then I finally had the treatment too. The last time was about a mo. ago and I was going to the Chir. so asked her about it. She told me she thought if I stood still and turned my head rapidly it might work. I did and it did work it worked. Chin down ...look to the left....look up .....look right ...chin down....did it several times, quickly. Reapeated it for a couple days. Can't hurt to try, hope it helps.

I too have suffered with vetigo - once so bad I spent 6 hrs. in emergency. the Dr. gave me an IV with "sea sickness" medicine that finally worked. After that, and several Dr.s and tests - I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease (build up of fluid in inner ear). ENT specialist said it is caused by an airborn virus. I now take Famvir (or the generic of it) - it is an anti biotic. Will have to take the rest of my life. The exercises did very little for me but I do take an "Antivert" pill if needed. I feel for you and I hope you can get relief.

i had this several years ago and it lasted 7 months, you need to retrain your head, do whatever brings on the vertigo, while you are holding onto a chair, move your head slowly first to the left and stop and count to ten, then back to the front and count to ten, and then to the right and count to ten, do this several time a day. it was a terrible time but it will go away, oh, and try sleeping with you head elevated. i hope this helps you.

I had the same thing. I would lay down at night, and the whole room would start spinning. I went to the chiroptactor a few times, and it totally went away, what a blessing. It is a scary thing and really takes a lot of joy out of life.

I tried the Brandt-Daroff manouvres that you can see on a number of You Tube videos and it has corrected itself. It might be worth your trying it if all else has failed?Good luck.

I had several bouts, but this last time I had it, I could shake it. Required exercises didn't work and the doctor said to wait it out. So I went to physical therapy after dealing with it for about 2 months. I was amazed as to how this helped. It did take a few visits, but each time it got better and I haven't had anything for 4 to 5 months. Good luck because I know it's not fun or easy to deal with.

BBPV, if that is what it is, will not correct itself, it may decrease, but the best treatment is to go to a vestibular therapist, get a script for PT for vertigo from a doctor or NP and make sure its a PT who's had training. The Epley maneuver is part of the treatment, but the PT can diagnose which canals are involved and treat in the right order so it doesn't get worse. Do not take your meclizine the day of the appointment or it will mask your symptoms and you may not get as good of a diagnosis (and thereby results). My boss is certified, but I can't seem to find the search engine they are listed in... if you need it PM me.

I am an herbalist and my clients get a small bottle of lavender essential oil and put it behind their ears. I did this for my 96-year-old Dad and it helps him sleep plus it completely eradicates the vertigo. The suggestion to get to a chiropractor is also excellent as it is often a tiny bone that needs adjustment and it's gone.
