Yes, WalMart fabric has really gone up, but we still have our fabric dept. The town 2 of my children live in had the first Super WalMart in the county and it took the fabric out and also the fabric shop that was there closed because WalMart took her business, so now there is no fabric store there. The manager there said the fabric would NOT come back.

Stoped at my Walmart last night for a quick in and out of things I needed but alway run through the fabric dep. Man what a mess so much material piled every where can't see would have to move to see what a joke what is the use of having all that material if you can't get to it to see? I could have spent a couple of hours in there moving bolts to see what is under and in the next pile. Plus the cutting table was piled high with stationary items only a little space for cutting. How sad before our SuperWal-Marts we had a great fabric dep large and huge cutting tables and lots of material but when the superstore opend fabric was downsized to one isle with cutting in middle one side fabric the other yarn.
Like I said if I could shop else where I would I really hate walmarts and hate spending my hard earned money in there but they are about the only game in town. Our K-Mart I shop for alot of things but they don't have crafts or fabric, and some things are cheaper at WM. Only one other grocery store in town and I do shop there for my meat will not buy WM meat.

FOR THE TIME BEING OUR WALMART STILL HAS FARIC AND A REAL PERSON TO HELP. I DETEST PRE PKG STUFF, BUT I SEE IT SHOWING UP ON ADJACENT SHELVES, AND HEAR THAT IS THE NEW MARKETING STRATEGY NOW, MORE LIKE CRAFTS AND NO EMPLOYEES TO PAY.:(

Yes. When Walmart abolished their fabric departments, the public responded so overwhelmingly and the money lost on those shoppers has spoken to their Board of Directors. All WalMarts are reinstating their fabric departments. It was only to take a month but some are lagging behind. The Super WalMarts should already be set up. Apparently there is truth that money talks!

I purchased a yard of fabric from a LQS for $9.00 a yard and decided later I wanted more. They were sold out so I looked for it on the Internet and couldn't find it. I called the company listed on the selvage and was told they manufactured it for Walmart under a different name and item number. I did go to Walmart and they had the fabric for $4.47 per yd. I purchased the whole bolt but when I got home and compared it to what I had bought at the quilt shop I could immediately feel the difference in the quality of the two fabrics. Not knocking Walmart, just saying you get what you pay for.

We have a very nice dept in our smaller W-Mart (in a semi-small town) - I like their quilting section as they have the fabric bolts color-coordinated which helps me to envision better. I sometimes feel like "if I could just cut my own, I could be on my way" - but maybe one day they can have a customer-operated scanning system that supplies the yardage and price. :-)
