I really like the machine, (after the usual learning curve), except for the 1/4 metal foot that came with it. I got so frustrated with that metal piece on the side, that I snapped it off. Found I could still do a 1/4" seam. I had also gotten the clear, red striped 1/4 foot, but I don't use it because it has a metal piece that is suppose to be used. Haven't tried the Dual Feed 1/4" yet, it has an even bigger piece of black metal on its side.
Has anyone else experienced the same frustration with these feet?

Two of us were working on the same quilt. She was way more experienced. My foot had the little metal piece on the side that I was using. Well it had bent out and we had to get some real experience in riping seams bacause hers and mine did not match at all.

I love my patchwork foot but like others, I have to adjust the needle position. It's one adjustment for the regular patchwork foot and a different one for the 1/4" accufeed foot. I write down the adjustments so I don't have to always do seam tests.

The new one comes with ridges running through the bottom of the foot which holds the material from moving...much much better...this was orginally for the Horizon, but my dealer gave me the new foot for free. Ask your dealer about it...boy it made a world of difference...no longer frustrated and doing the happy dance :-D

Maybe the foot was faulty. I have made about 12 quilts on the 6600 and never had a problem. Janome has another 1/4 inch foot that will do a 1/4 or a 1/8 inch seam .. with 2 little black guides to do that, but also has the foot marked in red for the 1/4 and 1/8 inch seam.
My Janome 6600 is my all time favorite sewing machine, and yours is the first complaint I've heard from anyone. All the people I know get kinda goofy-eyed, and say, "I LOOVVVE THAT MACHINE!" Sorry you had a problem.

I have owned the Jem Gold with that foot and loved it. I now have the Horizon 7700 and it has a similar if not the same foot and I'm lost without it. It may be just you need time to get used to it. I'll admit the learning curve on the 7700 is a bit confusing, but I love it. But I just about have to love it, I'll never be buying another machine in my life time :D
