I don't think you can NOT put the presser foot down on the 6600. Mine beeps and spazzes out.I've never tried to progress like that. I figured the thing would blow up.
Joymarie...the blue bobbin case is one specially made to give better tension for FMQ than the standard 6600 bobbin

I'm confused! Do certain machines need the feed dogs up and moving to FMQ? I thought they had to be down. I have a #1 Plus and a 330. Haven't tried it on the 330 but had no luck on the other machine. I can't seem to get anything going that looks good. Would putting the feed dogs up help me?

I had the same problem when I first bought mine. I had it back to the place where I bought it (they do service work on machines too) two different times and I was still having the same problem.
They ended up calling the manufacturer of the machine and found out there was a glitch in the manufacturing.
To fix the problem you have to put the feed dogs up before you turn your machine off. Then when you turn it on again you make one reg. stitch then drop the feed dogs and start quilting.
This has worked for me for the last 2 years and I've quilted about 20 quilts since then with no problem. Try it. Hope it works for you too. Bonnie

I set my 6600 to feed dogs down & default for stitch. I do have to crank the tension up to 8-9, though. I wonder if you just need to figure out how fast to sew in relation to haw fast you are moving the quilt around. That is the hardest thing for me to do.
