Random. Totally random. And more of them! Group 2-3 together here and there. Add a few butterflies perhaps. Keep it playful! When a single flower is next to a single leaf applique, it leaves a lot of bare stem sittin there just hangin out a-flappin inna breeze. Makes me wonder what it's up to... And it makes the quilt seem rigid to me. Mother Nature likes to put flowers everywhere she can! Go out and look at them in your neighborhood gardens.

Play with it, and ask the young lady. You two can decide where and how many, and it has nothing to do with boys' opinions. This quilt is for HER.

If you're going to have borders, maybe save a couple-few of the flowers / butterflys to scatter in the corners or elsewhere too.

Ooooo lookie!! My 1000th message! Well aren't I special! Or just WAAAAY too chatty... Do I get some sorta prize now??

Hmm, depends on what your going for.
if you want it too look like a continuous flower with stem, linked end to end, I would say on each leaf. That way it looks like a chain of stemmed flowers.
If you want to accentuate it as a vine, I would do random flowers.

I too like the idea of a butterfly in the open spaces.

I like the flower on each leaf......the other one gives the impression that somehow something is missing.

I like the flowers near the leaves. I might even put one or two somewhere else, like they have fallen from the vine.

I like random... they are vines, not short stems, so the flowers can appear all over the vines. Visually I prefer the applique distributed out better than all at the leaves area.

Very pretty quilt, BTW... :D
