[quote=rosemarie34]I could swear I saw this at the quilt show near Philly a few weeks ago...it caught my eye because I also love elephants...very beautiful...[/quote
It was entered into 'Quilt Odyssey'. Did you get to that show? I was at the show several years ago. It's a great show!

Diana, look to the left side where the tree meets the horizon and you will see a stitched elephant, his trunk and his eye is behind the frond but then you see his ear and body. Another one is where the first white elephant meets the horizon, just look staright up and you will see an elephant facing you. It took me awhile to see them too, I just hate it when I can't! LOL

But just enough to maintain the "spirit" feeling of the whole piece.
I keep coming back to this piece, and I've sent the link to friends as well.
It just keeps drawing me in.
I does remind me of a book I read around 97/98 - called The White Bone
http://www.amazon.com/White-Bone-Nov.../dp/0312264127
It's not for everyone, and, honestly, I have no idea why it appealed to me as I generally don't go in for any of the touchy-feely stuff.
But at the time I read, it struck such a chord - it takes place in an elephant community.
Wonderful book.

Out of curiosity, I did some research to see if there were real white elephants. Here's what I found:
The king would punish a servent by giving him a white elephant. As this type of elephant needed special care, it was a serious commitment to take care of it. This elephant was not a means for working any laborius tasks, and was not good for much of anything except to see to its care. That's where the quote "white elephant" sale originated from. It seems to be based on fact, and not a myth, and thought it was an interesting story.
There are white elephants, but rare, from what I understand.
