Welcome! We don't worry about "mistakes" here. We call them learning experiences or design options. :)

Not all of (by far!) use starch but you can use it to stiffen the fabric and make it easier to sew. I personally just don't prewash and that leaves it OK for me.....but lots of us wouldn't dream of NOT prewashing. Just one of those preferences that you have to figure out for yourself! I was a science teacher and demanded perfection from myself. I was somewhat easier on the AP kids than that. But, you are right, mistakes are learning experiences. I posted pictures of my two quilts worked on since I dragged my stored quilting supplies out. I guess that I should have posted my pictures in a different spot, I'll get used to that. I would like feedback on the second quilt, the one that I am working on. I plan to remove the circle with large black and white circles on it. Agree?

Welcome retired quilter. I do a lot of hand piecing and hand quilting too. Yes, it does take a long time but it's a great sense of accomplishment.
