ETA: I'm sure the university has the ability to 'sponsor' a raffle of any kind...though maybe not one held by a parent long distance. Are you planning to do the major showing in Vermont or in Virginia, where more people are familiar with the cause?

It would depend on how beautiful the quilt was, and if the cause was one I cared about.

I buy raffle tickets on quilts all the time, most are 2 or 3 for $5. I am glad to support the project the quilt was made for so I don't care if I win or not.
I don't need another quilt so I hope I don't win it.

Our guild does a beautiful "opportunity" quilt forthe biannual quilt show. Tickets are $1 or 6 for $5. We make a ton of $ over the course of selling anf displaying quilt for close to a year. Raffles are illegal in our state. We have to give something in return so people arent getting nothing for their money. Its usually a pjece of candy.

If you have lots of crowd gathering places to sell at, the $5 tickets will garner more money for less tickets. The value is not there to sell $1 a ticket to make the most money in a short amount of time. You need five people to spend $1 vs. one person to spend $5. Less places you have to go to to sell and less money invested in the fundraiser quilt for a bigger return. One marketing trick to donations or sells, have a clear ticket stub container and have it look at least 3/4 full of sold ticket stubs or donations (use filler paper to make it appear full) That will stimulate buying or donating. Marketing tricks work or they wouldn't be used.

As much as I love to support by purchasing raffle tickets, it is rare that I do so. It has to be a cause that really speaks to me and I would probably not pay $5 for a ticket. Not cause I lack charity, just lack the budget for extras... if money were not a factor, then heck ya I would! ;)

We have one that is a OBW 3-D, blue and white, full to queen size that we are raffleing off for $5 for one or $10 for three.......selling great. This was a folded star pattern. Really beautiful. Sounded like good price to me, for something special/unusual, not just thrown together. I didn't work on it, but I'm proud to be connected to it. Blessings, Ruth
