I bought a Singer Furtura, and as with the other ladys, it doesn't work good at all. I then bought a Brother, and not real happy with that one either. So I talked my dh into buying my Bernina 430, and I love it. I didn't get the embroidry attachment for it, for couldn't afford it. I love my bernina. People are right Singers aren't what they used to be. I used one when my children were young. I wouldn't buy another one.

If you read the consumer reports, the old Singers are great, but stay clear of the new ones.

Sorry but I wouldn't even look at a new Singer. Thye just have a Singer name been bought and re sold so many times in last 15 years, so not even the same as the older one are many times better and will last longer thaan thes new toys.

She is absoutely correct...The new machines are Singer name only...The new manufacturers bought the right to use the name..ie Singer Co. not the old Singer Manufacturing Co..and are manufactured by the new company's specifications....and above all, buy from a DEALER !!!!

I have both new Singer Models 7470 and Quantum L-500 and have not had any problems yet (knock on wood). I enjoy sewing on either machine - it's what I could afford at the time of purchase and it had all the features I needed - I'm happy with my machines.

I have a Singer Quantum XL5000 and last week I took it to a repair shop for a tune-up, was told the "circuit board" went out on it and it would cost $850.00 to replace the board and install. I paid $2500.00 for it new about 10 yrs. ago but only really started using it since I retired 3 yrs. ago. My questions are: would you invest the money in getting it repaired? And if not, what machine would you suggest I buy to quilt, sew and embroidery on? Of course the repair shop wants me to buy one of theirs but I am going to the "experts" for your opinions. Thank you for your help!
