Love reading all the penny saving ideas.

I'm using lots of odds and ends like the bundle of crochet and tatted doilies I bought at a rummage sale for $2. and thought I got took when I saw that most were damaged in some way. I'm adding bits and pieces to the Alzheimer's quilts I'm making.

I scout out thrift stores & estate/yard sales for 100% cotton bed skirts, pillow shams and valances to repurpose. I also found a 100% cotton shower curtain that made a great backing for a child's throw.

Yes, usually only things that I'm making for myself though. It's so hard to find a good variety of homespuns or plaids for a quilt so I often repurpose old shirts...also alot of my childrens cotton clothing when they outgrow it ends up in my quilts!

This made me laugh because sometimes my mom will bring me a blouse she has bought me. I say thank you then hang it up. After I think she has forgotten about it...I cut it up if I like the fabric. I use it in my scrappy quilt blocks or my potholders. Our tastes are so different. Sometimes it's just clothes from her closet that..."if you ( meaning me) lose some weight, you can wear this." I've tried telling her to please not buy me any clothes, but she still does.

Oh well, I've gotten some nice fabric out of it. haha

By the way, my mom is 77 and I'm 59 and she still treats me like a kid. haha

put a match to it, if coils up, it's poly. Cotton will turn to ash.

My latest "find" at estate sale was an absolutely perfect, bright white set
of full fitted sheet, Eyelet edged full flat sheet, and 2 pillowcases ... all
100% cotton by Stevens... cost? $2.
Also a gold damask drape (with Fortuny style pattern) that I recycled as a
backing for a beautiful wholecloth quilt of black/gold/tan print. Just
another $2.
