I wanted to make a black and white quilt, in the design below. But I'm afraid that the choice of fabrics is not giving enough contrast between the blocks. What do you think? I imported my actual fabrics into EQ6, so this is exactly what I'm working with, although the fabric placement can obviously change somewhat.

It looks great. The only one I question is the light grey one with lines running through it. Good luck. I love B&W.

I am no quilt designer and I do want to make a black and white someday soon. I am collecting my pieces. When I first glanced at your quilt I saw tumbling blocks, then I saw a pentagon (5 sided) then I saw a stunning red star, then some more stars, then my eye traveled to the left and I saw some triangles and blocks sort of jumbled not really making a pattern for me to rest my eyes upon. You know what though, now I understand better what people are talking about when they mention motion in quilts. Your quilt has lots of motion! I love your fabrics! But I think they might be just too busy all together. I think that what makes the blocks in the middle stand out is that you have the white on "top" and the black on the "fronts". I know that is probably not good quilt speak but it gives dimension and a place for the eye to rest. I do like your pop of red and I encourage you to keep going. I want to see your finished product so I can copy you!

Thanks for your thoughts. That was the intent (something different in each area). It's supposed to be triangles (on the left) merging to diamonds (the part you couldn't rest on - I'll have to work on that), then blocks (with the light tops) then hexagons and finally stars. Kind of inspired by Escher's drawings, like this one http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/m-c-...sis-iii-1968-1

I think it's grand. Your pattern is very active and fun to look at. there are so many different things to study in it. Love the pop of red.

One very important thing about it is that it is balanced over the whole quilt. No one part is heavier or lighter. Very nice effect from triangles to stars!
