What to use instead of white for reproduction quilts?

I love 30's repos too. Try muslin or one of the soft colors of the 30's pallette (mint green, light blue, soft pink, peach, lavender)

I use bleached muslin for my 30's quilts. We aren't an all male household, but we do have animals. My quilts get washed fairly often. I think the near white makes the pretty 30's colors look the best.

I am part of Darlene Zimmerman (known as feedsack lady) Clothesline Club at our LQS - it is a group that meets once a month and our projects are based on the use of 30's (reproduction) fabrics - there is a wonderful selection of solid colors on the market right now that work wonderfully for these quilts. Bella Solids or Centenial Solids work great.

There are many solids in pink, yellow, green and blue that coordinate with the 30s reproduction fabrics, and they are all lovely in a quilt.

I have a magazine from last year showing off a Darlene Zimmerman 30's quilt done in a soft green instead of the usual white. It is lovely.

I like to use Kona Cotton Snow. It looks great with the 30 repro fabrics.

Solids for sure - look at the 1930's solids yardage in Keepsake Quilting online - any of those solids would work well with those '30's prints ... but the key is to get the shades of the 1930's solids "right."
