Still have that pale turquoise my girl friends and I hunted so hard for. We stayed up late the night before, changing it just a little. Then after the wedding in the little Brown Church in Yosemite Valley, we changed into jeans and packs and went on our honeymoon, back packing in the high Sierras.
That was in 1967..tried it on a few months ago and of course both sides of the zipper refused any contact...that encouraged me to start on the "No name" diet which is working.
(Nothing with a brand name)
Probably never will wear that dress again, but may rework it into a blouse to wear with the lovely turquoise jewelry my dear late DH gave me. Still miss him after over 4 years.

When my mom passed away in 2009, we had to make a lot of quick decisions and her wedding dress and my wedding dress were given away.
If I had thought about making ornaments with them, or other items I would have kept them. But knowing me, I never would have the nerve to take a pair scissors to either one. Her dress was 59 years old and mine was 36 years old.
It was funny, at one point when we were planning my wedding and I suggested having her dress altered for me, she really balked at the idea. So it would have been hard for me to cut it up even to make items for the family.

Am waiting to see if my GD would want to wear it - she's 15 so it'll stay in an archive box for a long time (I hope).

I purposefully went for a coloured gress, a green/blue shot silk, as I wanted a dress custom made for me but if I was spending money on it I wanted something I would wear again! I have done so, twice, once was a jokey Scout event but the other was a Christmas ball so a bit more respectful! I have fond memories of DH-to-be standing in the silk shop trying to hold all the rolls of silk I kept handing to him, everything from turquoise to pale duck egg ... but the green/blue won!
I had a gorgeous gold thread embrodiered cream silk train and the flowers from that all-over embrodiery were copied around the neck of my gown. The train was then made into a Christening cape for my boys ... to go with the 1840s Christening gown from DH's family, hand drawn Irish lace and like tissue paper.
It's 8 years now ... and I'm hoping for a celebration party for our tenth, and to wear the dress again!

No, and it angers me to this day. My brother's fiancee borrowed it for their wedding and I never got it back. They divorced just a couple of years after and she said she would return it but it didn't happen. Breaks my heart.
I do have my baptismal dress and bonnet that was made from my mom's wedding gown.
